Time for Nature

On the occasion of the World Environmental Day – 05.06.2020
Time for Nature

“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare”
Lamented a poet in despair,
We still continue to lament and declare,
We have no time to stand and stare,
But have time enough to pollute the water and air,
And lots of time to lay forests bare,
We can kill an elephant with mirth unfair,
Unmindful of even its fervent prayer.
Yes, we have no time to stand and stare,
But all the time to make our environs a nightmare,
And cloud the skies with hazy smog and foggy glare;
Man has become a selfish despot ready to snare
Nature’s rich resources with disdain and brazen dare;
Today, we rue our actions and shed a tear,
But I fear, it’s too late in the day for much repair,
Alas! We have gone too far ahead and ruined our flair;
A result of our recklessness is the global Corona scare
Besides, we don’t know what looming threats are in store.
On this World Environment Day, let’s face it square –
Our civics lessons of childhood must be our new software
While our ethics and morals be our ideal hardware,
A deep respect for our environment we should endear;
Nature and man together then will make a marvelous pair,
So let our noble goal be divine nature’s welfare.
The sanctity of this bond will beautify magical nature,
And then we will have time to stand and stare…
With a defined role to protect nature, fully aware.

OUR WITHERED ROSE

I was subtle
falling in love
with you
I still remember
our very first moment
you were tensed and
to avoid staging it
you compelled your
hands to make a
“just got out of bed ” look
yet you looked amazing
I blurted out a hi
in return you gave me
your precious nervous laugh
and you had me there
we started it from
the so called awkward talk
and ended up laughing so hard
I knew that night
this was something
that’s gonna
make me believe
in the little things
all those poets wrote about
and how I started running
into your arms
to keep my heart warm
I gave my everything
to our spark
so that they don’t die
eventually
I started draining
myself out
never knew what went wrong
our spark
now flickering and
you said this is tiring
though I knew
what you meant
I never wanted to give up
yet you made me
we left our spark dying
but I still have
our withered rose
locked in this treasure truck
with the stem thorns
you gave me .
